Chief Executive Officer
Waley (Wei) Zhang

In the summer of 2014, Waley, with a group of four other students from a Canadian/USA math program, founded the Canadian Secondary School Mathematics Association. Currently, Waley plays an advisory role in all of CSSMA's operations. In high school, Waley competed actively in math competitions and scored in the Canadian Honor Roll on the COMC, Euclid, Fermat, and Hypatia contests, and qualified for national/international math olympiads such as the USAMO, APMO, and CMO. During his free time, Waley plays the violin and practices martial arts. Waley is currently a sophomore studying Computer Science and Statistics at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Chief Information Officer
Peter Fajner

Peter is the chief software developer for the CSSMA. He joined the CSSMA in 2016 and played a major role in implementing CSSMA's first Online Competition Platform. Since then, he has contributed regularly to improving the user interface and implementing new features on the CSSMA website. He is currently working to develop an app for the CSSMA which will bring CSSMA's online learning platform offline. Peter is currently a sophomore studying Finance and Computer Science at Dalhousie University.

 

Chief Financial Officer
Jordan Mirembe

Jordan joined the CSSMA in 2017 as its Chief Financial Officer. At age 14, Jordan distinguished himself as a public speaker by landing a job at Western Union as one of their youngest marketing representatives. He currently interns at Cowley and Company law offices but is no stranger to the non-profit sector, having volunteered for both the ACSCA and Freekicks (two charitable organizations devoted to the growth of Africa through athletic endeavors). Jordan also captains his school's soccer team and acts as a student adviser to the school's administrative board. Jordan is currently a grade 12 student at New Westminster Secondary School, BC.

 

TCP Executive Director
Serena He

Serena joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as the former Vancouver Math Olympiad's Artistic Director. Since then, she has taken on a much more extensive role spanning all areas of the organization, including organizing TCP events, procuring funding, and expanding CSSMA's outreach. Winner of the 2015-2016 CSSMA Staff Member of the Year award, she was elected to the position of the Executive Director of the TCP in June 2016. In her free time, Serena's passions include robotics, music, and science competitions. Serena is currently a grade 12 student at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, BC.

 

Young Years Program President
Daniel Li

Daniel joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 and was one of the co-founders of the Vancouver Math Olympiad Young Years Program (now just called Young Year Program). Daniel enjoys taking leadership positions in the CSSMA and he served as the president of the Young Years Program during the 2015-16 school year. Daniel is also looking to expand the Young Years Program from a provincial competition into a Canada-wide competition in the near future. In his free time, Daniel loves playing baseball and watching sports. Daniel is currently a sophomore studying Business at the University of British Columbia.

 

Math Stars National Coordinator
William Zhang

A former competitor of the Math Stars Competition Series (MSCS), William was recruited to join the CSSMA staff after scoring a perfect individual and team result on the 2014 Math Stars National Championship. Since then, he has organized various Math Stars competitions and was the contest problems/solutions committee leader for the 2016 MSCS. As an avid math contest participant, William is a 3rd place finalist at the BC Provincial Math Challengers Competition and a top 10 scorer in Canada on the Fryer mathematics competition. William is currently a grade 12 student at the University Transition Program, BC.

 

Treasurer
Albert Lee

In 2014, Albert joined CSSMA as a part of its very first group of staff members. Since then, Albert has play to crucial role in various CSSMA CSSMA operations ranging from developing educational content for our events, organizing competitions for all 5 of our competition programs, to managing our financial activities. Albert is also a frequent competitor in math competitions: he's an AIME qualifier and a top 10 scorer in Canada on the Fryer and Galois mathematics competitions. Outside of mathematics, Albert's hobbies include speed-solving Rubik's cubes, playing badminton, and playing the guitar and saxophone. Albert is currently a grade 12 student at New Westminster Secondary School, BC.

 

TCP Human Resources Director
Anna Ding

Anna joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as an Organizing Officer of the former Vancouver Math Olympiad. Since then, she has also taken leadership positions in the Math Stars Competition Series as well as the Finance & Outreach sectors of the organization. Outside of mathematics, Anna also holds key leadership positions in a number of other organizations across Canada including Millennium STEM and the Inova Computer Association. Anna is also a SHAD Fellow and has a vested interest in music. Anna is currently a grade 11 student at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, BC.

 

TCP Outreach Director
Terry Zheng

Terry joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as an assistant software developer and lead event organizer. He played a significant role in expanding the TCP by hosting various TCP competitions and expanding the program's audience to many more regions across British Columbia. For his outstanding service, he won the CSSMA Excellence in Service Award in his first year as a staff member. Outside of mathematics, Terry has a passion for computer science, biology, and physics. In his free time, Terry can be found skiing, connecting with friends, and gaming. Terry is currently a grade 12 student at Pacific Academy, BC.

 

General Manager
Bobby Woo

Bobby joined the CSSMA staff in September 2014 as the Head Sponsor Teacher of the former Vancouver Math Olympiad. Since then, Bobby has played significant roles in ensuring a successful legal and financial foundation for the organization. Bobby has also acted as the official CSSMA spokesperson on many occasions, ranging from media releases to hosting competitions. Bobby is a senior faculty member of the Department of Mathematics and Chemistry at New Westminster Secondary School, BC.
