Waley (Wei) Zhang
In the summer of 2014, Waley, with a group of four other students from a Canadian/USA math program, founded the Canadian Secondary School Mathematics Association. Currently, Waley is also the National Director of the Math Stars Competition Series. In high school, Waley competed actively in math competitions and scored in the Canadian Honor Roll on the COMC, Euclid, Fermat, and Hypatia contests. He has also qualified for a number of national/international math olympiads, such as the USAMO, APMO, and CMO. During his free time, Waley plays the violin, practices martial arts, and listens to classical music. Waley is currently a freshman studying Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
TCP Executive Director
Serena joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as the former Vancouver Math Olympiad's Artistic Director. Since then, she has taken on a much more extensive role spanning all areas of the organization, including organizing TCP events, procuring funding, and expanding CSSMA's outreach. Winner of the 2015-2016 CSSMA Staff Member of the Year award, she was elected to the position of the Executive Director of the TCP in June 2016. In her free time, Serena's passions include robotics, music, and science competitions. Serena is currently a grade 11 student at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, BC.
Daniel joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 and was one of the co-founders of the Vancouver Math Olympiad Young Years Program. Daniel enjoys taking leadership positions in the CSSMA and he served as the president of the Young Years Program during the 2015-16 school year. Daniel is also looking to expand the Young Years Program from a provincial competition into a Canada-wide competition in the near future. In his free time, Daniel loves playing baseball and watching sports. Daniel is currently a freshman studying Business at the University of British Columbia.
Chief Information Officer
Peter is the chief software developer for the CSSMA. He joined the CSSMA in 2016 and played a major role in implementing CSSMA's first Online Competition Platform. Since then, he has contributed regularly to improving the user interface and implementing new features on the CSSMA website. He is currently working to develop an app for the CSSMA which will bring CSSMA's online learning platform offline. Peter is currently a freshman studying Finance and Computer Science at the University of Calgary.
Chief Curriculum Developer
Jiang joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as one of CSSMA's head problem writers. Since then, he has contributed considerable amounts of mathematical content to many TCP, MSCS, and YYP competitions, as well as the Mock Math Challengers competitions. In the past, Jiang earned a perfect score on the CEMC's Pascal contest and top 15 in Canada in the CEMC's Fryer and Galois contests. Outside of mathematics, Jiang is an avid basketball, volleyball, and badminton player, and also enjoys playing video games and practicing guitar. Jiang is currently a grade 11 student at New Westminster Secondary School, BC.
Chief Operations Consultant
As one of the original founders of Project Sirius, CSSMA's large scale educational project, Wanqi single-handedly developed the framework for Project Sirius's curriculum and also contributed greatly to shaping the core educational philosophy of the CSSMA. Wanqi has also received many math awards including a perfect score on the AMC 10 and the USA Math Talent Search, two USAMO qualifications, and top ranks in the USA on the American Regions Math League and Harvard-MIT Math Tournament. Wanqi's hobbies include programming (he's the co-founder and CTO of WillowFlare, a market research/consulting company based in Chicago), theoretical CS (he's a grader/TA at the University of Chicago), game design, and photography. He is currently a grade 12 student at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
TCP Human Resources Director
Anna joined the CSSMA staff in 2015 as an Organizing Officer of the former Vancouver Math Olympiad. Since then, she has also taken leadership positions in the Math Stars Competition Series as well as the Finance & Outreach sectors of the organization. Outside of mathematics, Anna also holds key leadership positions in a number of other organizations across Canada including Millennium STEM and the Inova Computer Association. Anna is also a SHAD Fellow and has a vested interest in music. Anna is currently a grade 11 student at Fleetwood Park Secondary School, BC.
Bobby joined the CSSMA staff in September 2014 as the Head Sponsor Teacher of the former Vancouver Math Olympiad. Since then, Bobby has played significant roles in ensuring a successful legal and financial foundation for the organization. Bobby has also acted as the official CSSMA spokesperson on many occasions, ranging from media releases to hosting competitions. Bobby is a senior faculty member of the Department of Mathematics and Chemistry at New Westminster Secondary School, BC.
